Examinations

THE IMPERIAL SOCIETY OF TEACHERS OF DANCE (I.S.T.D.)

EXAMINATION BOARD

Dance examinations are a lovely way of rewarding pupils for the work learnt in their class. We believe they are a celebration of achievement. Pupils show their work to an external examiner in a dance studio and receive a certificate and report in the weeks that follow. They then go on to the next level or grade in the new term.

Great care is taken to make the exam day a very special one. To ensure pupils are as well prepared as possible, extra classes may be arranged during the run up to the exam session. It's a bit like preparing for a show!

We encourage I.S.T.D. examinations in the school as most children enjoy them and benefit hugely in gained confidence and competence.

Regular attendance and commitment is needed for pupils wishing to enter exams as happy dancers are those who know what the work.

Dance examinations should be rewarding and fun at the lower grade levels. Higher grades and vocational levels require passion and commitment to reach the standard needed to pass.

UCAS points for university are awarded from Grade 6 level.

Please note that exams are not compulsory and may not suit all pupils.

The I.S.T.D. graded examinations are accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (the statutory body responsible for qualifications and the national curriculum taught in schools).
